Sam S. Starr is an internationally recognized expert in sustainable goods movement, cargo bikes, and cycle logistics. He consults on multiple sustainable freight projects, from micro-hubs to cargo bikes, and advises governments and manufacturers on policy, best practices and industry trends. Currently, Sam is the Manager of Sustainable Urban Delivery at Penguin Pickup, leading their launch of cargo bikes for last mile delivery services here in Vancouver, BC. Sam brings 15 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, and final mile delivery, including work for FedEx, Newgistics, Flash Global, and US Pack Logistics. He has worked in both management and individual contributor roles from operations, solutions, compliance, customer service, and IT. Sam is a graduate of the Master of Engineering Leadership program in Urban Systems at the University of British Columbia, and also holds degrees in both Electrical, and Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. With a personal passion for cycling, commuting and touring, Sam’s work experiences and interests have led him to pivot his career to advance sustainable urban freight and cycle logistics and is on a mission to decarbonize our cities.
